Letti Bozard said her grandfather went on tour with the Navy and upon his return, he and his wife had the opportunity to purchase the dealership, which at the time was just a generic dealership that sold a variety of car makes and models. Coincidentally, the Ford Company was looking to open up a new location in St. Augustine and as fate would have it, the couple was able to not only purchase the dealership but, in January of 1949, they opened the doors of Bozard Ford to the St. Augustine community. Bozard said that when her grandparents bought it, they were sure to instill the important philosophy of putting family first. She said her grandparents and her parents both have always been the type of owners who have always had a family atmosphere in the shop and a close knit group. “We’ve always had the family atmosphere. That started with my grandparents.” Her grandmother worked at the shop alongside her grandfather, who was the shop’s dealer.
