Power is provided by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 252 horsepower and 273 lb-feet of torque -- enough to take the 2-ton SUV from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds while returning an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. With quattro all-wheel drive, power is put to all four wheels through a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. A turbocharged 3.0L delivering 335 horsepower and 369 lb-feet of torque is optional on the Premium and Plus trims; standard on the Prestige. This powertrain will propel the 4,938-pound Q7 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds, with an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Mated to an 8-speed transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, it brings this massive SUV to 60 mph in only 4.3 seconds according to Audi. Available adaptive dampers, an active differential helps bring the handling up to the stratospheric levels already occupied by the drivetrain. All-wheel steering is standard though, it assists in helping the big SUV corner at speed and improving low-speed maneuverability.
With the second- and third-row seatbacks folded down, cargo capacity is 71.6 cubic-feet; even with the second-row seats in place, capacity is still a generous 37.5 cubic feet. Steering is courtesy of an electromechanical power steering unit, while suspension front and rear is via a 5-link independent setup. Stopping power comes through ventilated disc brakes -- 14.8 inches up front and 13.8 in the rear.
